Why ureteric stones often need treatment
A stone in the ureter blocks urine coming down from the kidney, causing severe colicky pain. Stones under about 5 mm often pass with medicines, but larger stones, stones that do not move after a few weeks, or any stone with fever, a single kidney or worsening kidney function should be removed promptly to protect the kidney.

Is URS the same as RIRS?
